A genius loci in the middle of mountains and forests, a beautiful place with a dark past. A huge tragedy took place there more than one hundred years ago. The reservoir on the White Desná River, which was supposed to protect the mountain municipality from floods, breached and the rushing water swept away all in its path; trees, houses and their inhabitants.

What was once a large body of water is now the site of a dense forest. The environs of the dam have been modified into a place of commemoration. The gate valve tower, the remnants of the dam and the underground tunnel which channelled the water to the neighbouring Souš Reservoir have been preserved. The catastrophe occurred in 1916 and it halted the construction of embankment dams all around the world for a long period.
