Ideal for swimming, fishing and year-round sports of all types. Without the Jablonec Sea, as the locals call it, Jablonec would not be such a beautiful place in the world :-)
The Jablonec Reservoir (the Mšeno Water Reservoir) is located near the centre of Jablonec nad Nisou. It lies on the Mšeno Stream and it is the largest urban body of water in Central Europe. It was built at the beginning of the 20 century in order to protect the inhabitants from flooding. Nowadays, it is a technical monument and an excellent place for swimming, doing sport and simply relaxing. The beaches are either grassy or consist of small pebbles, while the entry into the water is gradual in places but very steep in others. There are beach volleyball courts, children’s climbing frames, public campfire rings, an outdoor gym and concrete courts for football, tennis or basketball, a number of refreshment stands and several restaurants in close proximity to the reservoir. Lovers of water sports can hire paddleboards from the local outlets (Paddleboardingshop, JBC-SUP or Paddleboardee), because the reservoir has perfect conditions for this sport! Another option is to contact the local dragon boat clubs (RK Dragons or Jizerský drak) and to try out paddling to the sound of a drum.
There is no charge to enter the beaches or play areas. In the summer season, toilets and outdoor showers are available free of charge.
The technical parameters: a walled dam and earthworks divide the reservoir into three sections. There are two feed tunnels associated with the dam: from the White Nisa and from the Lusatian Nisa. The reservoir’s storage volume of the amounts to 1,897 million m³ (up to a maximum of 2,786 million m³).
